Film Review – Ladies First

Ladies First is comedy film often relying on high-concepts and satire. It stars Tom Davis, Rosamund Pike, and Sacha Baron Cohen. Thea Sharrock, of the Me Before You (2016) fame, directed Ladies First. It released exclusively on Netflix on 22nd May 2026. The film is 1 hour and 30 minutes in duration. Here, have a look at the trailer:

This movie asks one real question. Does it take a man to leave his body and wake up in an alternate reality, where men as treated the same as women are in this world, to finally realize that women deserve same treatment as men?

The story is about a smug CEO of a beer company who wants to promote a lady in his board, only for optics. He promotes a woman who has given this company 20 years. Her ad campaign ideas get ignored the moment she shares them in her first board meeting and quits. What follows is the CEO following her, hitting his head and waking up in an alternate reality where men are treated exactly like women in this world. He is no longer a CEO, all the CEO positions are women and men are responsible for photocopies.

Back in real world, he reaches out to the lady who quits, giving her an equal pay, seat at the table, her lead on the ad campaign and everything else she wants. He also apologizes to his secretary, the cleaner and the receptionist. We are asked to believe he is a changed man.

The topic of the film is very relatable. It had the potential to connect with the audience. However, the poor execution and predictability fail to make a mark.

Our verdict – A flat out pass on this one. I would suggest to skip it entirely but if it caught your attention for being in the UK’s Top 2 most watched films, the first 20 mins are enough to spend on it. Honestly though, just read this review and skip the movie all together please! I give it a rating of 1.5 out of 5
