Main Vaapas Aaunga Movie Review: A Heartfelt Cross-Border Love Story That Stays With You Imtiaz Ali returns with Main Vaapas Aaunga, a film that goes beyond a typical love story. Set against the backdrop of the Partition, the film beautifully explores love, loss, memories and the idea of belonging. While Bollywood has explored cross-border romances before, this film feels refreshingly different because it focuses more on human emotions than political conflict. The performances are one of the film’s biggest strengths.
Diljit Dosanjh delivers a sincere and restrained performance, while Naseeruddin Shah is exceptional as an elderly man carrying decades of love and regret. Sharvari and Vedang Raina also leave a strong impression, making the emotional journey feel genuine rather than melodramatic. Director Imtiaz Ali once again proves why he is known for telling emotionally rich stories. The film is supported by beautiful cinematography, soulful music from A. R. Rahman, and dialogues that stay with you long after the credits roll. Some scenes move at a slow pace, but they never feel unnecessary because they help build the emotional connection between the characters. What makes Main Vaapas Aaunga stand out is its fresh take on a cross-border love story.

Instead of relying on grand drama, the film chooses tenderness, memories and hope. It reminds us that even when borders divide people, emotions often remain untouched.
(Spoilers Ahead) The ending is one of the film’s most touching moments. As Ishar imagines his long-lost love to still be alive, he gently asks for her permission before taking his final breath. It is a simple yet deeply moving scene that captures the purity of his love and leaves an emotional impact without becoming overly dramatic. It is this bittersweet conclusion that makes the film linger in your mind even after you leave the theatre. Final Rating : 4/5
